Page numbers are usually placed at
the top or bottom of each page of the manuscript, either in the center or right
side of the page. In the following example, we will place the name of the first
author and consecutive page numbers at the top right corner of each page:
- Open the word-processor file of
your manuscript, place the cursor to the left of the manuscript title.
- View the manuscript in NORMAL mode, by clicking on VIEW
and selecting NORMAL.
- Click on VIEW
and select HEADER, as shown here:
- This opens the Header formatting
page on top of the manuscript. This page has three icons on the left. The
left icon places consecutive page numbers, the middle icon
places the current date while the right icon places the current
time in the header. The following figure shows the Header formatting page:
- Set the Margins
to Right or click TAB twice. This will move the cursor to right margin.
- Add the surname of the first author
followed by et al., Page, as shown in the following
example:
- Click on the page number icon, identified
in the following illustration:
- You can also format the added text.
In this example, block the text of the author
and et al., Page , and click
on FORMAT, CHARACTER, as shown in the following example:
- Select ITALIC.
- Close the Header formatting page.
- You can view the page number by
changing to VIEW, PAGE.
You can, of course, place the page
number at the bottom of the page instead of the top. To do that, replace HEADER
above with FOOTER.
