Before sending your files as e-mail attachments, check the size of each file, particularly those of the figures and tables. To prepare figures files that are usually less than 1 megabyte for e-mail transmission, we advise you do one of the following:
- Save files created by your preferred drawing program in PICT or JPG format (for Macintosh users).
- Alternatively, print the file using Print to a file command of your printer to an electronic print file. In the next step, use Adobe Acrobat Distiller program to convert the electronic print file to a PDF file that could be opened by Adobe Acrobat Reader. If you do not have Adobe Acrobat Distiller program, you can prepare PDF files on the internet for a fee (see Adobe Acrobat website
- Or, compress large files using compression programs. You can download these programs for free from the internet. Examples of these programs: WinZip (for Windows and Aladdin DropStuff (Windows and Mac). In addition, some of the recent e-mail programs such as Microsoft Entourage, allows you to automatically compress large file before they are transmitted.
